Eternity`s Kiss

This is the legend from long ago
When ice was an ornament and greenery gold
There lived a maiden but maiden was not
Or so thought the townsfolk or at least from their talk
Rumors did spread of her never changing
Not one hair gray or wrinkle disfiguring
Her perfectly placed features
The women were jealous the men were dreaming
But to the maiden not one uttered a word or greeting
Not one but a child who was brave like many children are
He asked her directly if she had a heart
The maiden replied, “Yes, my son, I have a heart”
“It is why I am what I am”
“What are you?” the child asked taking the maiden’s hand.
A last breath our maiden now took
Ten years after meeting the boy now a man
The mark becoming evident on his chest
Where her heart was now his
Nobody knew the sacrifice of our maiden
But a young man like most young lovers do
He thanked her for a second life with the girl of his dreams
The young man soon realized the maiden’s secret
She was love—
Pure in anger
Gentle with touch
Like a sweet red rose or the Grace of God
Something you can’t live without
Love had touched him, love had changed him
When he woke with life anew
He had experienced eternity’s kiss like many lovers do
